4th National AAROM Meeting
From April 15 to 18, 2024, the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and the Hupacasath First Nation hosted the 4th National AAROM Meeting, where Indigenous executives and their technical staff from 28 regional and watershed organizations met to discuss collaboration, common challenges, best practices and partnering opportunities related to the provision of aquatic resource and oceans management services to some 231 Indigenous communities.
Issues discussed included improving science collaboration and knowledge exchange among these Indigenous organizations and with DFO, succession planning and mentoring for the next generation of Indigenous leaders, strategies and communication tools for effectively engaging community members and youth, training and ongoing capacity development, and climate change. The event was co-developed by a steering committee of executives from AAROM departments, along with DFO, with financial support from the AAROM Program.
